What variables effect my ability to learn self-defense?
1. Genetic Pre-disposition to stress: Some have low stress thresholds which result in quicker loss of motor skill, while others can maintain composure under stress resulting in the ability to perform complex motor skills with higher success rates. Our self-defense program starts with the most basic and intuitive movements to increase survival rates while under duress. Students then progress to stress inoculation training coupled with intermediate and advanced techniques. The goal is to increase stress thresholds and skill caliber resulting in increased chance of survival.
2. Experience and Training: Does the student have duty, sport, or street self-defense experience? Often times, something that appears to be fighting can be confused for survival training. The key difference between a survival scenario and sportive fighting is the physical and psychological consent and preparation. Our goal is to take the students experience to strengthen their weakness and empower their strengths.
3. History of Violence: A history or lack of history of violence influence our perception of our own capabilities to fight. More often than not, we hesitate when we think about what we would do to protect ourselves, but wouldn't think twice to fight for the life of someone we love. Our self-defense program works on re-framing our perception of hostility and violence to empower your ability to fight!
