Why You Should Use This Training Log

Because it’s S.M.A.R.T. To get anywhere in life, you have to set goals and map how you are going to get there.  S.M.A.R.T. is the simplest and proven effective method of doing so.  S.M.A.R.T. is an acronym used as a guideline for setting goals:

  • SPECIFIC: Specify what your goal is, why you are working towards that goal, and how you are going to get there.
  • MEASUREABLE:  Compare and contrast your progress.  You can’t manage what you can’t measure.
  • ATTAINABLE: Identify challenges that may interfere with your goal, and resolve accordingly.  It is important to be realistic to have actual progress and attain your goal.  Fail once for every four attempts to ensure that you are challenging yourself.  List how much time, effort, and resources are required to reach the goal.
  • RELEVANT: Individual actions and choices made should contribute to your overall goal.  Isolate aspects of a skill that cultivate into an overall technique.   Chop one big goal into small progressive goals.
  • TIME FRAME TO COMPLETION:  Having a due date keeps you consistent in your progress.  Undefined time frames to completion put you in a closed loop; you might gain momentum, but if you don’t get to your goal you’ll end up starting over.  Set realistic time frames that allow you enough time to prepare, but not so much time that you lose momentum.

As a martial arts coach and student, I have not been able to find a training journal that included important martial arts detail sections plus S.M.A.R.T. goal setting.  So I created this log for my students and anyone who can benefit from this design.  I placed in hints of our training method but made the format universal enough to fit anyone’s learning style.  This training log is holistic in that it includes areas to improve and prime the mind, body, and spirit for martial arts training.  I hope that all may benefit from this training log.

The book is 49 pages long comes with 7 days of class notes. To add additional training days, simple re-print pages 5-11 per training day.  Any and all feedback is welcome.  A download link will be sent once payment is confirmed.
